Halakha and responsa, Kabbalah
Halakhic decision rests also on a question put to Heaven: when a law was in doubt for him, he asked, according to the Radbaz, through solitary prayer, supplication and the invocation of names, and he was answered. His questions were asked by way of an inquiry of dreams, as questions to the heavenly court, in order to decide between the authorities.
A rabbi and kabbalist, one of the sages of the Jews of Provence in the period of the Rishonim, the son of Levi, who died in 1233. He lived in Marvege, served as a halakhic authority, was called in the past “the Pious” or “the Holy”, and according to the Radbaz, who held some of his responsa, was “a great sage, a kabbalist”. He is known for his work Responsa Min HaShamayim, in which he asked his halakhic questions of Heaven.
