Core Concept

A commentary on the Mishnah that examines the text and vocalization of the Mishnah, and, out of command of both Talmuds, the commentators and the halakhic authorities, discusses their words as far as the ruling of the halakha. His fondness for the Rambam shows in the commentary, whom he calls “the greatest of the halakhic authorities”.

Biography

One of the great commentators on the Mishnah, born in Sanaa, Yemen, who went up with his family to the Land of Israel and settled in Safed and later in Jerusalem, where he studied with Rabbi Chaim Vital and Rabbi Betzalel Ashkenazi. He moved to Hebron and wrote there, over thirty years, Melekhet Shlomo, a commentary on the six orders of the Mishnah. He also wrote Binyan Shlomo to the Wisdom of Betzalel and Divrei Emet, glosses on the Bible.
